Family Beaches.....Spencers Beach Park

One of the best family beaches on the Big Island, is Spencer’s Beach Park. Many people bring the whole family, because this is a good place for children to swim. The beach is in a protected bay, so keiki (kids) can enjoy the calm waters. The water is usually pretty warm, and the waves are small or there are no waves at all. It has a mostly sandy bottom, except for some rocks on the sides of the beach. There, people snorkel, and some people go fishing. There are picnic tables, and huge candlenut trees.

There are trails that on the edge of Spencers Park, that will take you to a historical park where you can see temples, and other structures built by the Native Hawaiians, hundreds of years ago. People walk this trail, and some ride bikes. Bikes and kayaks are available for rent. This is also one of the few beaches where camping is allowed right at the waters edge. Spencers has bathrooms, as well as showers.
