Weather in Hawaii

The weather in Hawaii is more diverse than most people think and includes 10 of the 12 climate zones.

If you are traveling to Hawaii, the first thing you will notice as you get off the plane is the warm, humid air rushing up to embrace you.

Weather in Hawaii Fog Another thing you will notice about the weather in Hawaii is the light. It is different than anywhere else I’ve ever been. It’s magical.... like spun gold raining down upon you. Even on a cloudy rainy day, everything is so beautiful because of the light. It has something to do with the angle that the suns rays hit the earth. The atmostsphere blocks the blue light, leaving everything looking crisp and clear, as if you are wearing BluBlockers.

You probably know that Hawaii is the rainbow state...But what you may not know, is how magical these rainbows are. I’m sure you have seen a double rainbow sometime in your life....But have you ever seen a double or even a triple rainbow connected? The colors run continuously right next to each other, with no space between them, as in a normal double rainbow. Have you ever seen a white rainbow at night? They are formed by moonlight streaming through high humidity. In Hawaii you can see rainbows almost every day.

Weather in Hawaii The island of Hawaii has a dry season and a wet season on the east side of the Island. The dry season is called Ku, which is March thru September. And, the wet season is called Lono, and it lasts from October thru February.

East Hawaii is one of the wettest places in the world, having over 300” of rain each year. Most rains are gentle, but sometimes they are fierce, as if buckets of water are falling from the sky.

The west side of the Big Island is dry and hot all year round, and does not rain much. In fact, there are places in West Hawaii where the rainfall is only .5” per year.

Weather in Hawaii windswept The temperatures during the dry season on average are a balmy 80 degrees. During the wet season, temperature may get as low as 60 degrees at night. Brrrrrrrr! During this time you will see snow atop Mauna Kea, and possibly Mauna Loa.
