Waipio Valley - Big Island

Waipio Valley from above
This last summer I visited The Big Island for a week, and while I was there I went to Waipio valley... it was gorgeous!
It was quite a hike getting down there. You can drive down with a 4 wheel drive , but the road going to the beach was practically a 90 degree angle! (Ok, I'm exaggerating a little bit, but not very much) it was frightening! There was a shuttle that could have taken us, but me and the people I was with decided to just walk down. Once we got down there, there were lots of waterfalls, lush greenery, and the beautiful black sand beach you see in the picture. I wish I could have taken more pictures but my camera's battery died as we went down the hill! It was so nice to be so surrounded by nature.. very peaceful. And everyone was so friendly there - when heading back up the hill, every person driving up offered us a ride. It was a wonderful day trip, and anyone who visits the Big Island needs to go see this place.
Aloha!
Comment by Sophia What a beautiful picture! I am actually planning on going to Waipio Valley in the next few weeks now that I am on winter break. I have seen the valley from above, as in your picture, but never made it all the way down... (it's because of that scary road!) Thank you so much for sharing, Cassy. Oh! And when I go, I will make sure to take lots of pictures for you. ;)
